The principal of a Baton Rouge design firm is so determined to convince her clients of the immense value of adding steam to their home spas that she’s using a model home as an “experiential showroom.”
Arianne Bellizaire of Arianne Bellizaire Interiors LLC learned first about the many benefits of steam at KBIS 2016, but found her clients were reluctant to consider adding it into their home bathrooms, either feeling it was an extravagance or not suited to their lifestyle needs. When Arianne returned to KBIS two years later, she delved deeper, learning how easy incorporating steam could be. She left determined to add steam to that year’s projects – and got an opportunity to do so in a show house project her firm took on.
Arianne used her own family as the client for this project, finding that this “real life client” approach made her design more authentic. Her team interviewed her husband, the family shower lover, while also considering the health benefits steam would afford Arianne and her son, who suffer from seasonal sinus issues, and her daughter, who suffers from asthma. The finished design has become an “experiential showroom” for the company’s clients, teaching them first-hand how steam can enhance the shower experience.
Arianne’s team designed the bathroom to feel like a luxury spa retreat or in the penthouse of a high-class hotel. They kept the color palette light and bright, allowing the polished nickel fixtures to sparkle, and enclosed the shower in glass, giving the stall a wide-open look that is spacious and inviting.
Because the project was a renovation, the team got to encounter the same kind of obstacles many of their clients might experience, working within the parameters of the existing bathroom’s overall footprint. Upon opening the walls, they realized the wall they had slated to remove contained all the venting and plumbing manifold, forcing them to adjust the design. But while they had to swap the placement, they found the new, smaller shower provided a better flow in the bathroom layout overall.
