Patti Johnson, of Patti Johnson Interiors, was redesigning a more functional and aesthetically pleasing bathroom with larger closets, along with an updated master bedroom that featured more storage.Her clients, a young couple in their 30s, had not considered steam before Patti recommended it, describing the benefits of a steam shower to them. Because the husband suffers from allergies and sinus flare-ups, and since the space was undergoing a gut renovation, the couple agreed that this was the perfect time to include it.
There were some significant obstacles for this project, specifically in the shower. The home itself was built on a slab, so all of the concrete floors had to be demolished to relocate the plumbing and heat runs.A gas furnace had to be relocated to make room for the greatly enlarged bathroom. Despite the upheaval, Patti says both contractors and clients were flexible, supportive, and patient.
The new bathroom design features neutral brown and beige floors and tile, a long marble counter with a double sink, white marble in the steam shower, a sliding door on a rail to accommodate the narrow space, and significantly more storage than the original bath. Patti selected MrSteam controls in white trim, and equipped the shower with an Aquavision television and fogless shaving mirror by Clear Mirror. A final touch is the MrSteam towel warmer, placed just a hand-reach away from both shower and tub.
